Aces to Five Lowball Rules
In the game of ace to five lowball, the best hand consists of: 5 4 3 2 A. The suit does not matter, nor will a straight or a flush count against the hand you have. However, there are some other rules you need to remember.
First of all, when jokers are used, it automatically becomes the lowest card even if you do not have it in your hand. Unless the joker's contrary is up, then it is presumed to be in use.
During a Limit game, checks and raises are not allowed. However, if the players involved are giving fair warning that the check-raise is being allowed, then this rule is void.
When you are playing ace to five lowball with a limit then, prior to the draw, a card which is exposed has to be taken – but only if it a seven or less. After that, a card which is exposed and is greater than the seven has to be replaced. This occurs after the deal is finished. This exposed card is known as – and used as – the burn card.
Finally, in ace to five lowball with a limit, you have to consider the “Sevens Rule.” At least, this rule is presumed to be in play and being used. If it is not being used, then the players need to be informed of that fact. If, during a check, you have a seven or higher and you also have the highest hand, then all the action which takes place prior to the draw is considered null and voice. Thus, you are not allowed to win anything on any of the following bets. However, you are till able to take anything which was in the pot prior to the draw, provided you have the winning hand. In the event of an all in bet which occurs prior to the draw and it amounts to less than half of a bet, then a seven or higher is able to call and win. The exception here occurs if a player over calls the short bet and does not win; at that point, the player who initially over called gets their bet returned to them. If at any time a seven or higher finishes a total bet, then all obligations are filled.
